My son and I are trying to decide on a trailer/tow vehicle so that we can transport our two FE's in one trailer. The "simple" solution of course is a long enough trailer to put both in nose to tail. Each FE needs about 12 Feet so that's 24 feet just for the two cars and without considering space for workbench, tools, spares, wheels, etc. makes for a rather long trailer (either tag-a-long or gooseneck) and also raises some storage issues too.
We'd rather go with a shorter trailer with a stacker arrangement so we'd love to hear some ideas on how best to do that (or warnings about why not to do that). The FE's measure 3 feet 7 inches from the ground to the top of the roll bar so we'd certainly need to add some height to a standard trailer (we could even go as short as a 20 foot or so tag-a-long if we used a stacker). But the real issue here is "what type of stacker should we consider"?
We've seen two systems online by Gemini (http://ift.tt/QXzEOv) and Stinger (http://ift.tt/QXzCWS). Both are hydraulic 12 volt systems which seem great but what happens if we are at the track and something goes wrong with the hydraulics? There seems to be no manual way to "winch" the car lift to get one car lifted so that other can be stored.
We've also seen some homemade (or custom) systems that either use an electric winch and cables to operate the car lift or have angled ramps to winch the first car into the trailer and then winch the ramps up to level the car then the other car gets loaded in normally below.
Anyone with experience with any of these systems or currently have one that they can tell us about?
Any ideas, information, suggestions, warnings :D etc would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks!
