Tripod Questions

I had to remove my diff or cleaning and during the process I'm cleaning and re-packing the tripods.

One thing I discovered is the drive shaft flanges have 3 series of 3 holes and the tripod case is only 2 x 3.

So as I'm looking I see that the 3rd hole is actually exposing the grease !

Normal? Am I missing a shield or something?

Also, any comments on the wear on the liners? Normal?
