can anyone point me to research or design requirements (not to be confused with opinions) for the width between the shoulder belt anchors in a formula car? the FIA site
(www.fia.com) has been checked and I didn't find the desired information. there's an excellent document on HANS belt installation (Guide for the use of HANS® in
international motor sport; aka: Guide_HANS_2007_0.pdf). the GCR, 9.3.19. DRIVER’S RESTRAINT SYSTEM - F. Harness Threading: Fig. 2 isn't much help. " 4-6" max. at guide or anchorage - when using a head and neck restraint, follow the manufacturer's recommendation. " doesn't inspire a great deal of confidence?? surely there's something better than: 0 to 6" unless you have a note from a manufacturer !!
at this point I'm guessing mounting geometry requirements change as the driver's seating position transitions from full upright to Swift DB-1 to Stohr FF and I'd like to get it right. safety, like so many things, is about attention to detail.
