For sale is a well prepared 1969 Lotus 61 Formula Ford with Ivey built motor and Taylor built Hewland. Chassis number 61MxF3/136 and listed on the Lotus Formula Ford Registry. The car is part of an estate sale and was raced up to the passing of my father. As such we just had the gearbox fully gone through by Taylor Race Engineering and also replaced rear suspension ball joints in prep for its next outing that never happened.
This car is one of the Fawcett Family Racing’s better prepared cars. It’s a take it to the track, have a blast racing it, then drive it into the trailer and do general maintenance in prep for the next weekend. It has been very reliable since we had Ivey do a full rebuild (dyno sheets included). It isn’t a trailer queen but I must say the paint is beautiful. If I had the opportunity to keep it to race I really don’t know what I’d do next. Maybe in a season or two send the head off for freshening depending on how perfect you wanted it to be? You will love racing this competitive Lotus.
Comes with spares and a set of tires yet to be put on the car, not new but bought from a guy who gets new tires every weekend. Log books back to 1982 in Canada, bought from a guy who knew what he was doing in the Rocky Mountain Vintage association, most recently raced by us in CVAR (look up race dot fawcettengineering dot commercial)
Some highlights:
Ivey Engine build and dyno tuned
Taylor rebuilt gearbox (yes, really no races on it)
Replaced shifter joints
Fire system
Fuel cell replaced
Oil cooler in back
Custom radiator
Rear hubs rebuilt with new axles, dougnuts and bearings 2011
Original long nose (so many have been cut – we have a small air entry underneath and with the oil cooler has held up fine to Texas heat)
Vee braced roll bar which helps decrease chassis flex
Engine cover
Strong dry sump pump
New battery and air filter (neither pictured but will be on the car when you get it)
Spare gears in proper cases
Separate oil and water catch bottles with drain valves
New high strength rod ends in the rear
Actual Lotus bell housing with the “Lotus” cast in
Lotus-Holbay valve cover
Underside flywheel shield
Memory tach
Removable Momo steering wheel
Set of “one weekend” tires yet to be mounted
Upper body is spaced up a bit (see gap in photos) for 6’2” 230lb driver. Spacers easy to remove.
Spare suspension arms
1:55.05 TWS long course, before Ivey engine- would be quicker now with that same driver
Disclaimer: This is a purpose built race car – they did not come with a VIN or title.
Asking $22,000. Location - Bryan, TX USA
