Road Atlanta Majors.
It was fun to be back in a Stohr WF-1 in P2 trim at Road Atlanta since leaving DSR for F1000 in 2012. My F1000 car is qualified for the Runoffs so I decided to double down and start my P2 qualifications for the Runoffs.
I drove a Young Racing prepared WF1 and Sherman Chao drove his WF-1 also prepared by Young Racing.
This was Sherman's first time to Road Atlanta. He did the rainy test day for all four sessions. "Brave man" for first time at RA but it was good practice for the rainy Sunday race.
I skipped test day to get fitted and to complete the P2 conversion. The Carbon Fiber Tunnel blocks that Young Racing makes to fit the WF1 are very nice high quality parts that made it easy and the restrictors were plug and play.
We had 46 cars on the track including 8 P2 cars for the weekend. It was very busy during the two Friday Qualifiers. Final qualifying was Crowe/Bryan Yates-West-Kawi/Chao for the top three P2's.
I skipped Saturday morning qualifying and we finally found what was making the Flatshifter not work properly during qualifying the day before.
Race 1 was very busy with a tight packed group as we were mixed with various classes of FA, P1's, P2's, FC, FM's and FE's. Final results were Crowe/Chao/Bailey Monette in a FM Sports Racer Mazda for top three in P2. Bryan Yates had crash damage from an off in T1 that they were repairing late Saturday. I was able to sneak in a track record on old tires.
Race 2 was a rain race. My goal was to be conservative and stay away from trouble. It was white out conditions some of the time. About mid race Sherman passed me with a Formula Mazda in tow. Luckily I was able to get back by Sherman before the end of the race. Top three were Crowe/Chao/Yates at the finish in P2.
Fun weekend in all. P2 has seen consistent high participation in the SE and I look forward to more P2 racing and the Runoffs.
