Does anyone talk about driving?

I’m considering dipping my toe in the racing pond again after 10+ years away, so I came by ApexSpeed to see what’s going on.

Back in the olden days when drones were the guys who got in the way of the lead pack every few laps, and bumping a guy from behind to make a pass in a formula ford would not be called “a good aggressive move” by a TV commentator, there were no forums like Apex Speed, so many drivers talked on an email list called Wheel2Wheel. There were often questions, and corresponding lively discussions, about the actual craft and art of driving; stuff like how to get confidence back after an ‘off’, adapting to a new faster car, best way to learn a new track, etc.

Looking at ApexSpeed, it seems odd to me that there is not a forum, or even a sub-forum, devoted to topics about the actual driving of race cars. However, I figured if it was an area of interest, then Driving would enjoy the same stature as Data Acquisition, Simulated driving and Towing stuff. So, I did some searching, and found that there is, in fact, virtually no interest in the topic. Shocked, I Goggled “driving forums,” “racing forums,” and many other variations, trying to find a ‘driving’ forum, but I was not successful.

That is mind boggling to me; on the whole internet (or at least the part I can search) no one discusses race driving. It makes me wonder what happened while I was gone:

• Is everyone now consistently winning races and setting track records?

• Do people believe “you have it or you don’t’” and/or you have to learn it yourself?

• Did simulators take the place of discussions and advice?

• Are new or struggling drivers afraid to ask questions?

• Are the fast guys unwilling to share hard earned ‘secrets’?

• Have coaches replaced peer mentoring?

• Did people get to many unhelpful answers so they stopped asking?

Anyway, I’m just curious why a racing forum does not talk about driving.

Finally, if anyone does know of a forum where driving is discussed, I’d love to have the URL.
