Webster 5 speed gearbox

Got this gearbox years ago and never used it. The story of it is confusing as Craig Taylor said it would've been for a FM... obviously it wasn't as it uses std. VW R&P set, but Webster/Hewland internals and has the shift shaft come out the back of the trans.

Here's what you get: Nice VW case modified for Hewland/Webster internals, 8/35 R&P in usable condition, VW differential, 5 speed bits, reverse and 13/38 first gear, 4 gear bearings, 2 dog rings of unknown quality (look okay though), gear carrier housing with selector forks, NOS Webster side plates with correct seals installed, VW CV drives, side bearings, stock VW side plates, VW input shaft.

What you'd need to do to use this trans: Lightly clean the case as it has some corrosion. Have the R&P gear back lash checked, check gear shift fork set-up, assemble trans. and add a modified VW shift housing. (I can do the shift housing if you wish)

I'm thinking this box came out of a sports racer or low HP formula of some kind as it's made for low torque, high rpm engine, standing starts, etc.

R&P is 8/35 (4.375), 1st gear is 13/38.

Someone has drilled a "hole" in the side for some reason (maybe for a 4th gear VW fix of some kind?). I've threaded it and installed a plug.

For what it's worth the Webster number on the gear housing is 345-63.

$2250 OBO plus freight. I'll package at no charge. Can ship anywhere if you provide a proper address and pay through PayPal.

Thanks for looking, Lawrence
