Old School Formula Ford Race?

So, as some will know, Ben Cooper and myself are putting together Formula Fords to go out and have a bit of fun in. As a bit of a kick up the arse to actually finish these things we recently agreed to go to the ARRC in 2015 and have an old school UK style race together for old times sake, Ford Engines, treaded tires etc...

With all of the recent talk we thought we might see if anyone cared to join us, leave your fancy fan cooled, fuel injected motors at home, ditch the slicks, strap on some Toyo's and go out and have some fun.

If we get some cars together I might even put up some prizes, If it's just me and Ben I would be writing the check to myself!! ;):D

So, Who fancies it? :greenflag:

Car set-up and aero

Can anyone recommend a good book on chassis set-up and aerodynamics? Thanks much.

Front Droop and Preload

Hi all

following on from some earlier posts of mine on handling of my 2004 VD, I'm doing a bit more research into front droop and preload.

I have got some good feedback from a supplier in the UK regarding setup and was all set to try it out when one of my fellow competitors lost his brakes (literally a pad separated from the backing plate), spun and hit me at the hairpin and bent 3 chassis rails, smashed up pods and radiators, cracked the bellhousing etc etc. You all know the drill.

Anyway, one point I cant seem to get to the bottom of is the guy I've been talking to in the UK about setup says he runs 300lb springs on the front of the cars with 0 droop, but also says he achieves this with no pre load.

I'm only a few years into this car setup game, but am a mechanical engineer, and I can not see how this is physically possible to achieve given the weight of car and driver.

I run 400lb fronts and need about 300lb (about 3/4") preload to get 0 droop.

The only two things I can think of that he may be doing are:

1: measuring 0 droop without taking off the ARB (I measure mine with it off)

2: droop limiting somehow

Any thoughts?

PS I have previously read the various threads here and on DSR forum on 0 droop

Daytona SARRC SIC

Does anyone have a link to the results of the Daytona SIC results? I cannot find them on Race Monitor.

SVRA Indy June 2015

If memory serves, formula fords conforming to Monoposto rules were accepted at the SVRA Indy race this year.

When I go to their site, I find nothing to confirm this idea.

I drive a 1981 PRS club ford.

Am I eligible for the event and if so how does one get an invitation?

I would also be interested in hearing of your experiences at the event and was it worth the effort to go.

I know! Of course it was. : )

Thanks in advance
