NJMP detour route - OUCH!

The unexpected can happen -

Was towing home from NJMP and ran into a street detour approaching the Delaware Memorial Bridge in Pittsfield, NJ - on the detour road the road was sinking where it passed over a culvert - the deviation from the sunken portion to the high portion and return to the sunken portion was about 4 inches in a total distance of about 10 feet - the yump, even when driven at 15 MPH caused my trailer to bottom on the crest and break its 'spine' at 7 PM on a Sunday evening. Called AAA and they could only recommend a towing company whose telephone number they provided. Called the towing company, they said they could have someone there in an hour to hour and a half. While I was waiting, a local walked by and inquired of my problem, shortly thereafter the local police came by and provided my 'exact location' (I was following GPS and had no idea what road or city I was currently in). A few minutes later, a SUV with a group of local came by and reported a friend of theirs that was a welder would be coming soon to see if he could be of help. The welder arrived, surveyed my situation and figured he could help and returned to his house to get his welder after we agreed to his $100 cash price - he returned about 10 minutes later and after we got the trailer up off the street and the break back in a position to be welded, I detached the tow vehicle to go to a convenience store with a ATM to get the required $100. When the welder got back with his equipment, the towing company driver arrived and was told he was no longer needed. When I got back to my breakdown site, the trailer was all welded up and ready to go.

Total delay 2 hours 30 minutes and both the trailer and I made it home. Sometimes it is better to be lucky than good.
