o.k....
Again, I'm asking likely simple and questions asked before, but unfortunately I am unable to find an answer after searching the site and google.
1. I have purchased Geoff Chambers RF84 Van Diemen (ex Joe Fisher) and it appears the carb has been prepped by someone. It has the tiny brass tubes from the float bowl into the main carb throttles.... however my question is WHAT types of epoxy are used in gluing these tubes in place ?
Can standard JB Weld be used ? or is there some magic epoxy that the carb builders are using ??
(when I pulled the cover off it was apparent the epoxy used is flaking away and pulling away from the main carb body - which I suspect is giving the car some of it's tight right hand slow speed stalling and stumbling (auto-x only car...so mainly 2nd gear 30 mph type of exits)
When I flake away at the silvery type of epoxy (looks like it almost has metal flakes in it) it is starting to flake away in large chunks and is pulling away from a lot of the passages that the tiny tubes go through. I can only assume that those passages that the tubes go through HAVE to be fully sealed ..... Likewise in the main throttle portions can I re-epoxy these tubes flush with the walls ?
2. I have not had time to weld in O2 bungs and run a wide band sensor, but my question is on jetting. I'm assuming it's common to have different sized jets from main and secondary sides on the DGV ? (I'm from the old-school GT world of Mikuni sidedrafts and we never staggered jetting sizes at all....equal jet sizes and air correction jets. But it's been 20 years since I ran a carb'd vehicle, so my knowledge/memory is weak.
(and for those that have run wide bands - what kind of numbers are you aiming for on these carburated old-school motors ? (I'm used to building/tuning big hp turbo 4 cylinder Nissan motors in the 400-600+ whp range)
Ford powered auto-x dudes willing to chime in on what your jetting is set at ?
The easy button is to buy a new "built" carb from Pegasus (OR ?? ....vendors chime in) but I'm only planning on running this car a few more events this year before I put it away to rebuild my new 6 car, 4 hoist race shop and house - so that aquisition will occur in the off season. I'd like to just get the car running a bit better in the next few weeks.
cheers...don
