Battery Cutoff Switches - Just go bad?

At the track this weekend I had a few times where my starter didn't want to turn over.
There was enough power to light up the data system, but when it went to pull for the starter, it wouldn't.

Turn the cutoff off and back on firmly and it worked fine. Its seems my 'pit crew' was just turning it on a little too gently and when turned on firmly there were no problems.

Conclusion is that it's not making good internal contact...
I suspect the 'indent' or whatever makes it hold contact is a little weaker....

Is that a reasonable conclusion?

When I replace it, any particular brand better than others?

Also, my key is vertical when in the ON position and it was recommended that I reposition so the key is horizontal. Extra drag might account for my slow lap times.
Any experience with that while I re-working it?

Thanks !
