Serial number 2503, RF98, highly desirable narrow chassis, front track-62", rear track 57"
The reason I am selling this car is I bought an RF04 last year as I am too long in the body to fit comfortably in the 98 chassis- I am 6.1 the main challenge is the elbow room for shifting as it is cramped.
Many apexers may recognise this car as belonging to Hector Pickering who formerly campaigned the car.
The chassis is very clean and has never had any major accident damage. This was one of the key reasons I purchased the car and Hector lives 10 minutes away.
Since purchasing it in the fall 0f 2013 it has undergone extensive upgrades which are listed in detail below. I am more of a wrencher than a driver; but this car had several notable podium finishes with the previous owner. I am certain in the hands of the a more experienced driver it would remain very competitive.
My emphasis was on safety. Hence the decision to use 5oz Kelvar (2 layers) that was epoxied onto the inner side panel body work. Our local race regs allow for sheet metal but this is really a substandard anti intrusion solution to the Kevlar. The material used is ballistic grade woven Kevlar supplied by Lincoln Fabrics. They are wonderful to deal with in case anyone is looking for a factory source. The fabric ID is RD-14-BAL. A new ATL fuel cell was installed in the spring of 2014. The fire bottle was new when I purchased the car( note it is stored at room temperature in the off season.) I also replaced the bottle pull cable with a Pegasus supplied cable with the safety-pin at the handle as the access to the one on the bottle is a pain.
Upon purchasing the car I stripped it completely as I am like Peter Egan and want to hold every piece in my hand. So in this process I rewired the car ( I worked for 20years in the 12volt car audio business so this is done right). I rebuilt all the pedal bushings, removed the pedal stand-offs to increase the leg room ( these are easily reinstalled for shorter drivers under 5-7), replaced the apex joints in the shift linkage and the radial bearing it runs through in the bell housing, re-bushed the steering rack, and repacked it with synthetic grease, replaced any worn rod ends and spherical bearings in the suspension, rebuilt the calipers and all three master cylinders, replaced the leaky slave cylinder and throw out bearing , replaced the clutch disc and pressure plate ( less the one hour on them both) and refinished the flywheel, rebuilt the CVs, replaced several CV boots and put in new detent springs and bushes in the ends of the shafts (they were nasty), aslo repaired several damaged brake lines from abrasion issues and rerouted them correctly. The battery is two years old, the quick disconnect terminal is new and finally it has new mirror lenses and a new rain light.
The log book is up to date and the car has passed CASC tech inspection for the last two years. I have raced at 5 weekend events and completed several lapping days.
Prior to my purchase the previous owner had completed the following note-able upgrades- new stainless floor, new Ivey prepped carb, new fuel pump, new bosch distributor, new bosch coil, new taylor leads, cap, rotor etc, new oil pump and various braided supply lines.
When I purchased the car it was supplied with a fresh Ivey built engine (10 hours on it), I have the build info for the motor and the dyno sheet upon request - max 112hp. Unfortunately the head on this motor had porosity issues and hence coolant issues as it was burning coolant. Suffice to say this was rectified by installing a replacement engine. However the Ivey short block is included in the sale and is undamaged. The current engine is a sleeved 711, it runs a new SCAT crank, carillo rods and Ivey's pistons, using a cast head. The previous owner spared no expense on this engine and he can be contacted for additional information and details by any serious buyer.
Other features include, double penskes, custom machined nitrogen cartridge holders (not shown in the pictures as the cartridges were tie wrapped at that point), AIm dash -Mycron 3- new Momo flat bottom wheel (one session using it), the original fiber glass seat in excellent condition, two sets of panasports with almost new toyo proxes , new bead seat in a box, new spare crush box, 4 spare radiators and a complete gear set. MY contact number is 613 386 3851- cell 613 453 1367
I am old school so please phone versus emailing . The car is located in eastern Ontario near Kingston- approximately 2 hours north of Syracuse- 6 hours to NY or Boston. It will need new belts this year but is otherwise race ready- would also make and excellent candidate for a Honda conversion. I can email more photos to any interested party if they want to contact me at danbya310@gmail.com
