Small flat spot on pressure relief valve

Folks,

In inspecting my oil pumps internals, I have noticed what appears to be a flat spot that's been deliberately ground into the spot where the plunger of the pressure relief valve sits on the seat.

Is that normal? I asked another guy about his pump and he said he had a similar flat spot.
