Phil Wang Records Weekend Sweep
Calabogie (August 22/23, 2015) – Calabogie Motorsport Park played host to round 5 of the Millers Oil F1200 series. The weekend turned out to be an epic battle between Phil Wang and Barrett Kingsborough, on this outstanding 5.05km road course.
Race 1, Saturday afternoon, started with Barrett leading the field to the green flag, Barrett and Phil would fight for the lead into corner one, Phil would eventually take the lead in Lap 2 and carry that on to the finish, with Barrett finishing a close second, and Jeremy Steinhausen rounding up the top 3.
Race 2 Sunday morning would start with Phil leading the field to the Pole, Barrett not to be out done jumped to an early lead. Phil's consistent driving got him the lead back in lap 3. Phil and Barrett would battle it out the entire race, with Barrett making a last minute push for the win, shattering the lap record at Calabogie with a 2:29.3, but it was not enough to take the win away from Phil. Positions 3-5 came right down to the line with a final drag race between Jeremy Steinhausen, Sid Nye, and Noel Brigido, finishing in that order with less that .200 seconds separating the 3 cars.
Race 3 Sunday afternoon had Phil leading the field again, this time Barrett was not about to let the Phil run away with the race, taking the lead in lap 4. This started the battle for the win, With the lead switching back and forth until the final lap. With Barrett in the lead, with only a few corners to go, Phil would steal the lead and head on the win race 3 and the weekend sweep, leaving Barrett to settle for second place, followed closely by Sid Nye.
This wraps up an exciting weekend of racing at Calabogie Motorsport Park, the Final event of the Millers Oil F1200 season will be held September 26/27 at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park.
