Hello,
I have a 9 month old Varley Red Top 15 in my DB-1. It just failed. By that I mean it does not have the energy to start my Kent when fully charged. I put my 5 year old Varley Red Top 15 in the car with a full charge and it fired right up. Just to make sure I switched the batteries back and forth again - same result. It also starts right up on the jumper battery.
Called Pegasus - there is no warranty on Varley's. So I ordered a new battery.
Now I'm wondering if I am treating my battery correctly. I use a jumper battery at the track when the car is cold or at the camper. I use the on board on the grid (mostly SCCA regionals).
I use a Battery Tender charger. I charge the battery between sessions since I always have AC power. When I tow home, I charge the battery within 24 hours of track time.
Then about once a month I charge it up again. Doesn't take long.
Is this ok? Doing anything I shouldn't? What do you use for charging at the track?
