FST as a first race class?

I have been browing the forums here and reading about FC until I realized how much the operation costs were, then saw FV and thought this looks affordable and just now am finding out about FST and it seems many discussions say a FST is as fast as a "national" FV yet at a lower running cost.



My objective is to

A. Be Safe

B. Have Fun

C. not spend to much money.



I don't care to be at the front of the pack or get a trophy I just want the excitement of racing with the best bang for my buck and I am trying to find out what that is for me.

I don't know much about working on cars yet besides basic oil changes and brakes and changing tires.



What questions should I be asking and looking for to find the right class?

Any comparisons? I searched but couldn't find a simple Formula Vee vs Formula First post.
