Aluminum Wing Refinishing

Gents;

Is there a technique for refinishing aluminum wings to appear 'grainy' semi-bright as though they were new?

I thought I once heard using WD40 and an ultra fine 3M pad, say #7445, white super fine grade, 1200-1500 grit.
