Leg Protection

Suggestions are welcomed for an issue my tall co-driver has in my Cheetah sports racer (BMod Solo). He is bruising his leg badly on the shifter and even worse, is missing shifts because of it.

Is the fix simply to cover with aluminum? It would require some shaping so that there wasn't an exposed edge at the front.

Thoughts?
