F600 Challenge: Barber Results

F600 CHALLENGE: BARBER MOTORSPORTS PARK ROUND #4 RESULTS

For Saturday’s 12 lap race, Clint was on the pole with a 1:32.3, followed by Tom Edwards’ 1:36.5, Hunter Brayton’s (15 year old newcomer to this track) impressive 1:37.9, Fred Edwards in 4th, Ryan Barth (also a newcomer to this track) in 5th, Carl Maier in 6th, Ken Van Horn in 7th, George Bugg in 8th and George Fox in 9th. However, by race time on Saturday afternoon, it was still raining after a very strong thunderstorm almost blew everyone away. With 15 minutes to grid, everyone was changing over to rain tires as it looked like the rain would continue. Fortunately, the race was held up to allow all to change over and make it to the grid. At the start, almost everyone began to slip and slide around the course. At the end, Clint was first, followed by Tom Edwards in 2nd, Hunter Brayton in 3rd for his first time on the podium, Ryan Barth in 4th, George Bugg in 5th, Ken Van Horn in 6th, Carl Maier in 7th, George Fox in 8th and Fred Edwards in 9th.

For Sunday’s 21 lap race, the grid was determined by your best time on the track whether it was Saturday’s qualifying or race, therefore the grid was as follows:

1. Clint McMahan, 2. Tom Edwards, 3. Hunter Brayton (having his best showing in the Series), 4. Fred Edwards, 5. Ryan Barth (improving every track session), 6. Carl Maier, 7. Ken Van Norn, 8. George Bugg and 9. George Fox.

For the race, the weather was hot and clear and Clint had a challenge by Tom Edwards and Hunter Brayton going into the first turn but Clint quickly pulled away. Tom Edwards and Hunter Brayton duked it out with each other until the 8th lap when, for a scary moment, Hunter broke his right side steering arm in the brake zone before the left hand turn #1, going straight off into the right side gravel trap, Hunter was fine but disappointed. By then Clint had backed off a little (1:35’s) and was in cruise control, conserving his gas as a precaution. Tom Edwards, running 1:36’s, again finished 2nd, Ryan Barth finished 3rd for his first time on the podium, Carl Maier 4th, George Fox 5th, Hunter Brayton 6th, Ken Van Horn 7th, George Bugg 8th and Fred Edwards 9th.

The Formula 600 Challenge moves on to the final double points round at the ARRC on Road Atlanta for the Halloween weekend.
