GingerMan 2014 exclusively for Open Wheel

Hello to the community, I am writing to you in our area(all the way to Minnesota, Kentucky and Iowa too, just in case) to those of you who came to our track in the past, to the ones that raced here, those of you who put away your car for the last few years and those of you who would like to come to our track a few times a year to enjoy open-wheel only track days.

I have to agree with everyone else that it sucks getting "cut out of the mix" when it comes to test and tune practices or track time period. I don't think it does our group any good to be isolated because it prevents newcomers, street car guys/gals from getting interested or involved in open wheel formula and sport racers.

In 2012 the test and tune evening practices that were so common at GingerMan since the early days, were pretty much wiped out due to low turn out for both open and closed wheel cars. Was it the economy or other reasons, sure. I am here trying to stimulate a "gathering of the masses", so we can have our fun too. Management at GingerMan has made it clear that if enough people would show interest in coming here for an open wheel only track day event, that it can be put together with ease. It is hard to say so without available dates for patrons to sign up, that is the gray area that worries me as to getting the ball rolling. I will try my best to reach out and try to get enough people so that this type of event becomes something to look forward to, for years to come.

I have some ideas that should get things in motion. The first is to find enough signatures of those interested and who would be willing to show for the meetings. I have a good relationship with Hoosier like many of you, and maybe a customer appreciation can be in the works, were the boys in Purple come in with the Hoosier truck and we have a one or two day open wheel event. I am thinking that at this point weekdays are key. Getting a hotel room in South Haven in the spring/summer/fall isn't always the easiest or cheapest, but our affiliation with the Holiday Inn Express could enable group rates and more so during the week. Other ideas I have is to use the track in both directions, the use of JRM's DynoJet at el-cheapo dynoday rates and last but not least, have a pig roast and beer tasting sponsored by one of our many Michigan breweries like Holland or Bell's.

This would be considered a trial, a "low profit" attempt for GingerMan to get the masses together and show appreciation for open wheel cars. I am sure that we could pull this off but we need to spread the word, get a good head count, collect signatures and have a plan. It is only March and we can get this going pretty easily. I haven't had a word with management about this initiative and I know the Owner of the track would be super excited to know that the word is out. Lets make it happen!!

Please hit me up here on ApexSpeed or my email jrmrace@gmail.com for comments, ideas or as a way to count you in for open wheel only track day.

I am not currently a member of the DSR Forum, but if someone can copy this to it would be great. Also shout out to the GLC, KEA boys, MidWest council etc...

I'm sure I left some things out but let this be the beginning, I will work on more details and I will work to make this happen, which shouldn't be too hard.

Kind regards
