WTB: Formula Ford Thermostat housing water neck

Formula Ford aluminum Water Neck Wanted

Hi all......

Have a need for a replacement (read LIGHTER) aluminum water neck coming off the thermostat housing. Standard (I assume) 2 hole thermostat housing with 1.5" outlet if possible.

Is there a standard off the shelf type of thermostat cover available ? or are they specific to model ?

(this is for a Crossle 50F, but can either run the neck vertically, at 30-45 degree angle, or off the side and I can work around it.

Prefer aluminum as this hand made steel unit is HEAVY (read, I can kill someone with it) and it's all rusty and fugly.

Shortening Evo 4 GPS cable?

I've got an Evo4 with integrated GPS. The antenna cable is VERY long. I would like to remove almost 4' of it but not sure how easy that would be with the shielding and sensor wire being very thin. Has anybody done this or know somebody who can? Better yet, anybody have one way too short for their needs and want to trade?

March 79SV remove Fuel cell bladder

Hi, I bought a March 79SV last year and I'm currently preparing it for a new HTP. Belts, fire extinguisher are already checked and ok. The fuel cell is a FT3 type and needs to be exchanged since it is from 2004. Can anybody help me with hints how to remove the cell bladder without opening the rivets from the monocoque?
I have removed an aluminum plate from the back side of the right sidepod - I can see the bladder but it doesn't seem to fit through the opening. Any clues?
I can see and access the connection from the fuel cell to the collector/catch tank.
Or is it possible to get a certificate without removing the bladder?
Thanx
Volker

$28k or Best Offer

I have a RF98 Van Diemen that has a NovaRace F1000 conversion package; it has never been run. I bought the RF98 from Mike Sauce in 2007. Mike had stripped the car to the frame and strengthened it, put a fresh silver powder coat and belly pan bonded and riveted to it. Car is fitted with a raised nose that has a Dallara F3 front wing assembly. It has an adjustable front sway bar with a Comprent adjuster. I also got with the basic NovaRace kit; the engine mounting kit (2006), cooling kit, ceramic coated exhaust kit, shift kit(paddle shift) and air box. The engine cover and the RF 98 nova conversion cooling is by Mike Devins of HRP. The engine and wiring harness were built by George Dean Racing and have zero hours. The Penske shocks were built by Joe Stimola before he passed away. It has an AIM MyChron3 Dash. The car just needs to be finished and raced; the car is 99% there and need some finish assembly.

Comes with:

Two full sets of Oz wheels.
Rear set of Oz wheels with Hoosier rains.
Extra set of side pods.
Spare diffuser.
One spare new nose raised style.
One spare new nose low style.
Spare rear sway bar.

Toe link rear.
Rear lower arm left.
Rear lower arm right.
Two rear upper arms left or right.
One spare shock cover.
Half shafts left and right.

NCM not on the schedule :-(

It appeared that National Corvette Museum Motorsports Park (NCM for short) was on the preliminary schedule and is now not on the final schedule for GLDIV or any other division I see.

I called NCM and spoke to the manager and he said that Cincy region had decided not to run an event there this year. Although they are fighting with the neighbors, noise is not the issue. NASA and other organizations are scheduling and running events there.

I'm really disappointed. I think it's a great facility and was really looking forward to going back.

Sensor Identification

Hi All,

I am having difficulty identifying a particular sensor, specifically the brand of said sensor so I can find the specs on it.

Info I know: it is a temperature sending unit, I believe it came off of an Indy car or Lights car (was picked up in a batch of sensors in a lot sale of a closed Indy Car shop), it is wired for a 4 pin connector but only uses 3 pins (input, ground, and output), there are no markings.

It looks like a standard VDO sending unit, but I haven't found anything of units with wire leads (all either post or spade connector). Is it possibly just a gutted VDO unit with wires being added?

Feeling very virtuous as I’ve been really cleaning out unwanted “stuff” from my basement. I still have some leftover vee stuff from my 35 years of participation that someone other than the trash collector might want. All these items are free but the “buyer” pays shipping and handling. I’ll just drop the item off at the local UPS store.

A pretty darn complete set of Vee Line Xerox copies. So if you want to read about cheating in the 60’s and 70’s, the never ending but futile attempt to upgrade Petunia this is your big opportunity.

A three lb box of lug nuts and other assorted hardware.

A priming oil pump. You build the motor with this guy, put a bit of oil in it, spin the reversed, o ringed shaft with a fast electric drill and bingo all your bearings are pre-lubed. Not necessary but its racing comfort food.

A brand new link pin beam adjuster.

A few (maybe 5) new oil pumps. These are the bigger ones not the tiny ones.

A Vee bench engine starter. This consists of a ½ a split case transmission sawed off after the bell-housing and a virtually brand new 1958 VW starter. I used this to pre run my engine but once for grins I ran a motor with the last pushrod removed just to see how the rear oil pressure relief valve worked –messy experiment.

I also have several starters but since these are heavy I’ll recycle unless anyone has a use.

Preference given to someone who wants everything or locals who would pick up.

94 VD Rear hub/upright diagram?

Does anyone have an exploded view diagram of the rear upright/axle/etc for a 94/95 VD?

At first glance I thought first step would be to remove the 6 10mm nuts around the stub axle but they are loose and spin.

Have some play in the assembly and assumed it was the bearing - now not so sure....

711M long block-street car takeout-std. bore-San Jose, CA

Here's a nice seasoned '72 Pinto 711M engine. This is a street car take-out that turns over freely. Comes with what you see (front and rear covers, valve train, valve cover, water pump, sump, etc.) Bores measure at 3.188". No visible issues with head besides the carbon build-up: no cracks seen and no valve recession. This is not an "uprated" engine.

$600, Pick up in San Jose, CA. More pictures are here:

Toyota WSR 1995 For Sale

1995 Toyota WSR

Toyota WSR (World Sports Racer) 1995

Built by Smart Performance in 1995 in California for a one-make sports car support series to the IMSA racing series. This car was raced by Fred Bross in SCCA New England Region and won the CSR championship in 2005, 2006, 2008, 2009, and 2010. I purchased the car to race hillclimbs in the northeast. I have raced three hillclimbs since I bought the WSR: Mt Washington, and Burke Mountain twice. See video from the Mt Washington hillclimb in 2014 here:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ph-ajvjUEms

Current Specification
Chassis
Mild steel square tube frame chassis. Original roll hoop carefully removed, new full halo cage installed using 1.5 inch x 0.095 wall DOM tubing. Can be converted back to original hoop if desired. Original side protection square tubing removed by previous owner; new side protection round tubes 1.5 inch x 0.095 wall DOM installed by my fabricator.

Body
Fiberglass bodywork cut and modified to fit around new full cage. Most cuts are short slots to fit the cage tubing. Fiberglass is in reasonable condition otherwise. The rear wing attachment needs fixing.
Currently the car is fitted with open-wheel bodywork made from .032 aluminum sheet. Large front and rear wings. Aluminum flat bottom has been trimmed to fit the narrower bodywork, but trimmed material has been saved and can be reattached to enable the fiberglass body to be fitted. Lexan windscreen bolted to the cage. Aluminum roof can be fitted.

Engine
  • Toyota 4AGE, Loyning cylinder head with shim under bucket tappets
  • Web camshafts part # 45-072 (.398/.398 lift, 257°/257° duration)
  • Toyota adjustable cam sprockets
  • TRD forged racing crank
  • forged rods
  • 12.85:1 JE forged pistons
  • Custom oil sump
  • Electromotive HPX ignition unit
  • Holley fuel pump
  • Weber 40 DCOE twin carburetors
  • New K&N air filter

Transmission is stock MR2 as fitted to the original WSRs. Differential has some kind of spring-loading system to mimic a proper LSD. Radiator moved rearwards and SPAAL electric puller fan was installed. New radiator plumbing, solid aluminum tubing plus flexible silicone tubing.

New Parts
  • Radiator plumbing
  • SPAAL electric puller fan
  • About half of the suspension heim joints are new
  • Momo steering wheel
  • Schroth Formula Harness FIA expiration date XXXX
  • Poured foam seat
  • Starter switch

Spare Parts
  • Weld aluminum wheels with low-use Avon slicks
  • Diamond steel wheels with low-use Hoosier wets
  • JDM transmission apparently with Cusco LSD (but never verified by me)
  • Original roll hoop
  • Original fiberglass radiator ducts through front suspension
  • Original copper radiator

Dodgy Bits
  • The current front wing support is aluminum tubing and angle bolted together. I can’t guarantee it won’t fail, your own solution will probably be better.
  • Electrical wiring is a bit of a mess. Starter wire is broken somewhere.
  • Fuel cell is expired. Also fuel filler neck is cracked a little at the base.
  • Tilton pedal pivots are a bit worn.

Large set of pictures of the car in various stages of development:
