Hewland MK9 question...

Hi folks,

This is my first post so please be gentle!! lol

I just just purchased a '78 Crossle 32F and started going through the car.. OK basically taking it all apart. One thing that I can't figure out is what the purpose was for this massive boss welded to the back of the Hewland case..

Any ideas???
