I am trying to remove the oil pump from my 1.8L supervee motor so I can tear down and inspect everything. It is the usual side mount Titan style dry sump pump driven by the intermediate shaft (that also drives the distributor).
I had thought it would extract straight out but, not to be. After unbolting the pump, it appears the adaptor plate needs removing as well to release the pump and adaptor as a single unit. The issue is the last securing cap screw located behind the pump that is inaccessible. Shown below with the red arrow.
Rotating the pump housing does not provide enough access to the cap screw and I actually ended up stripping the pump down thinking the pump housing could be slipped off to allow access to the cap screw but this does not seem to be possible either.
Surely it shouldn't be this hard (or I've had too many beers....) So if anyone has some experience or tips to remove this pump, can they let me know please.
Also, until the pump is out the intermediate shaft can't be removed either.
Many thanks,
Ricky.
