Is the thermostat housing on the Pinto FF engine a spec item? I don't care for the goofy upper radiator hose on my DB3-1.6LFF and would like to fit something a bit more elegant. The first thing I would change is the thermostat housing that has a hose connection that is a full 1/2" bigger in diameter than the upper inlet on the radiator. The existing hose is a real work of art... makes almost a 180 turn with about a 20 degree twist and is fat on the end for the engine and shrinks down to a smaller diameter for the radiator but not small enough to really fit properly. I would like to use some of the nice blue silicon hose pieces that Pegusus sells but making something to mimic the existing hose would require too many pieces.
If the housing can be changed, anyone have a recommendation for a source for alternate shaped housings? I'm an effective aluminum welder so I could fab one that fits much better if it is legal and if I can find a good source for some of the basic parts.
My DB4 uses a fabricated part that combines what looks like a cast housing with a mandrel bent section of 1.125" aluminum tubing. I would like the create something along the same lines for the FF so I can use a consistent hose size all the way from engine to radiator.
Any help will be appreciated.
