Road Trip Adventures !

As a 20 yr old kid I helped a buddy 'restore' his old MGA. My job was was engine & running gear. His, body & paint.

She was finally up & running for our two week trip from South Florida to a cabin North of Ottawa on the Friday night before we left out early Saturday morning.

Car was a hoot to drive. Ran well. Took one quart of oil per two tanks of gas. Cruising thru Upstate New York, passed a young woman hitch-hiking. I immediately stabbed the brakes & whipped around. Pulled over to ask her where she was headed. Then, realized the error of our ways. There was barely room for the two of us & our sparse gear in that shoe box, let alone her. Had to leave her behind.... :-(

Enjoyed the rustic cabin with our drinking water coming straight out of the lake.

Came back across the border in Minnesota. Guy in front of us got popped with some pot. Well.... they decided they should have a closer look at the two us, also. So, Stripped Searched ! Nothing to find...

We laughed our way out of the Customs Office to grab the car and head South. Holy Sheet ! They had disassembled the car while we were inside !!! Again, nothing found...

I yelled at the border guards, "Hey ! Who's going to put our car back together !?!? " They replied, "Our job is to take 'em apart ! Your job is to put it back together." So, we did....

Even though we were on a very tight budget ( nearly broke ) We had a blast. Arrived back in Central Florida with just enough cash for one more tank of gas and one last quart of oil to make it home to West Palm with a solitary Nickel left over !

That's right. Two week trip to Canada & back in an old MGA with a Nickel to spare & not a credit card between us. Yes, those truly were the 'good old days' ! ;-)
