Lotus Twin Cam Engine

Well, not exactly a complete engine. Here's the deal. Last year I had a rod bearing failure and seized a rod. Bam!!! (or "Kablamo," as David Hobbs likes to say.) I've decided to sell the still good and important bits to someone wishing to finish the engine to their specifications. This will permit the owner to specify rods and pistons (and compression) to their liking when finishing the engine.

Here's the inventory on what is included:

  • A good Lotus "L" block. One cylinder wall was damaged but has been sleeved and the block crack and pressure tested. All four cylinders now same size and ready for final hone. Line bore checked for both crank and cam bores and are OK. A jack-shaft (to drive oil pump and distributor) isn't included but can be cut from any old 1600 cam shaft.

  • A good 12-bolt steel crank. Again, one rod journal was damaged but has been repaired by Mile High Crank, Magnaflux inspected (no cracks) and fitted to the block with new bearings. Bearing caps good.

  • A good lightened 12-bolt flywheel, prepared for a Tilton 7 1/4" clutch.

  • A good TwinCam Head with mild cams. It too has been inspected and in good condition, the rod failure not hurt anything in the head.

  • Lotus Valve cover.

  • A pair of 45 DCOE Weber carbs. They come with an air filter assembly.

  • All the front and rear covers, timing chain tensioner and sprockets, etc. Timing chain included, but probably should be replaced with new, just to be safe.

  • A Bosch Distributor. Comes with appropriate twincam cap and Pertronics breakerless electronic points.

Not included: Dry sump pan (the rod pretty well trashed the pan), oil pump (also got tweaked), rods and pistons (unless you want just three, ha-ha) and jack-shaft. Clutch not included but might be sold in addition. Carbs are included but could be taken out of the package if not wanted. I have other cars which can use them.

$4,000+ shipping. I'll absorb crating expense or maybe wen can arrange transportation somehow.

For the cost of a set of pistons and rods of the buyer's choice, dry sump pan and oil pump, clutch, timing chain and a gasket set. the engine would be ready for completion.
