Brake woes: Part three

Looking for ideas:

I rebuilt my brakes for the first time in 20 years, because my pedal went from moving less than 1/2 inch to moving about an inch. New seals, 5 new pistons. Messed up and tried to "fix" a mastercylinder that probably wasn't bad, so now I have new Girlings [3/4 rear, 0.7 fronts]. Fixed my "upside down caliper" mistake. Bled them like a revolutionary war surgeon, and still massive pedal movement. I was told they would feel bad the first session, so off I went. After the first session, they seemed better, but when I went back out for the race, they were if anything, worse. Long pedal travel, and it felt like there was grease on the rotors. A friend suggested I "bench bleed" the MCyl, but I really didn't see any air bubbles when I did that, so I am not expecting a big improvement. Any ideas as to what to try next?
