Drilling FF Axles?

I am looking at some areas to reduce weight on my car this winter and saw that the original axles I have in the car are solid. The OD is around 1.08" and was thinking of getting a long 7/16" drill bit and drilling them out.

I know most people buy gun drilled axles but those aren't in the budget. I just wanted to see if anyone has done this and if it's a bad or good idea and why.

I can't imagine there being much load on the axles with only having 115 hp and the axles not being loaded while cornering like the suspension and uprights/hubs are. So that leaves braking as the largest load, in torsion. Not sure what load to use as the braking force to do a quick hand calc based on the moment of inertia/cross sectional area of the axle to compare solid vs drilled.

Thanks
