Hello, this is my first post on apexspeed, recently got into the land of sports car racers when I friend purchased a car for SCCA Solo. So I'm sure I'll be around trying to learn as much as I can, I'm used to production based car.
The axle in question is for a B-Modified Solo car with LeGrand rear uprights.
We broke the axle shaft at the retaining clip for the outer cv joint (fixed ball). The problem I'm running into is sourcing the parts to replace it.
The outer CV joint is from a mk1 VW, I've purchased an axle from a 1975 VW Rabbit and it fits our hub and the profile matches. The cage for the joint is 30 splines. The inner CV joint is a 94mm, 33 spline, 6 bolt.
As you can see, the axle shaft has different spline on each end. I'm trying to avoid the completely custom axle route, a place like Taylor Race Eng has pre-splined axles that can be easily modified, but they have the same splines on both ends.
My initial thought was to find an axle stub (similar to this) and CV joint on the outside. This would leave us with CV joint on both ends and make servicing easier.
Another option would be to find a outer cv joint that has the same profile with a 33 spline cage in lieu of the 30 spline. I have to believe that these parts are standardized with Lobro and would be interchangeable, but I don't know where to start to find that out.
Could anyone help? Trying to make an event in 2.5 weeks...
