Using new GPS runners watches for lap times

I am trying to see if there is a way that I can get simple lap time info for my car.

I'm familiar with the AIM solo and other similar products that are costing about $400.00

I have seen the new runners watches with GPS for half the cost.

One such version would be the Tom Tom Runners GPS watch.

It seems to have a fairly large face and the numbers look readable. at a glance.

Any reason you couldn't get one of these and strap it to your wheel.

Any thoughts on this?

Also, I have found some of the infrared lap timers on Amazon for under $100.00.

I know that you get what you pay for, but has anyone tried these units?
