water 1.6 engine help!

I have a 78 Ralt RT-1 SV. It came with the Schrick (photo attached). And, I have a Drake on the shelf. I was hoping to make them both the same sump and water/oil pump plumbing for interchangeability.

-So, I need a complete VW sump like in the picture or a Drake sump.

-What is this waterpump? It is German. Where can I find one?

-I would like another oil pump/filter casting like this one. It is elegant.

-Any suggestions on how to get parts for either?

1997 RF97 Van Diemen Formula Continental Package For Sale

Hello Apexspeed,

I have a RF97 Van Diemen Formula Continental package for sale Chassis #2299.

Background/History:

This was Justin Pritchard's National car back in 97 and was race nationally up to 02 by several other drivers with the results of those races written in the log book. Then according to the log book, it was ran a season in the MARRS series and then sat at the end of 02. This car was then listed for sale on here in Summer 2013 as a package by a guy in Virginia (I have the name written down somewhere) that had no time for it and finally decided to sell it cheap. John Newcomb in Alabama bought, kept a few things from the package and listed it for sale on Racing-Junk. I bought it from John Newcomb in the Fall of 2013 with plans to fully rebuild the car and run it regionally with the SCCA.

I completely rebuilt 90% of the car from the frame up with a few things left to do, and then moved to St. Petersburg to work with Cape Motorsports W/ Wayne Taylor Racing full time and now have no time or room to complete the car. So, I have decided to sell the car. The car and spares are currently being stored in Lancaster, PA in a climate controlled warehouse (as seen in picture 1) with the water drained out of the car. The logbook is also in Pennsylvania.

The car features:

-0 time freshly rebuilt pinto engine tuned and dynoed at 155hp and 155tq (was previously a national quicksilver motor before this rebuild)

with a freshly lightened and balanced flywheel (close to 11lbs, 10.5lbs is class minimum)

-Triple adjustable penske 8760 shocks (currently at Angelo's ,ANZE SUSPENSION, waiting on me to tell him to rebuild them or not)

-NEW, 0 time completely rebuilt uprights on all 4 corners

-NEW, 0 time PFC rotors on all 4 corners

-NEW, 0 time wheel bearings on all 4 corners

-NEW, 0 time KFP Red brake pads still in the box

-NEW, 0 time AP master cylinders: Clutch, Front, Rear

-New, 0 time Odyssey pc545? lightweight battery

-Completely rebuilt Front Ld20 calipers (rears still need to be done but I have all the parts)

-NEW, 0 time Rear upper A-arm bearings (bearings need to be swedged in place)

-All NEW AN and other hardware everywhere (every bolt has been gone through and replaced with the correct one)

-NEW brake rotor bolts on all 4 corners

-NEW, 0 time Accel 300 ignition system

-NEW plugs (Quicksilver ones I believe)

-ALL NEW T6061 firewall, 3m scotchweld bonded, cherrymax riveted

-Inspected and regreased tripod joint axles

-NEW, 0 time Gyrodynamics diffuser mounted

-NEW custom Slave cylinder lines

-ALL NEW Aircraft wiring throughout

-New Valvoline and Cartel fluids throughout the car

-Suspension components were all painted with Seymour MRO flat black (thin coating that still shows stress cracks)

-Almost all other parts were Powder coated inside the cockpit

-Hytech 4-1 exhaust

-LD200 gearbox with no cracks or welds

-PI Research System 2 dash with all of the allowed sensors of that system (RPM, Battery, Oil temp, Oil Pressure, Steering position, Timing beacon, water temp, manuals and software)

-MOMO 240mm cut-off top steering wheel with PI research buttons for cycling through the dash

-Cockpit adjustable front and rear ARB

-Total of 3 sets of OZ 5-spoke wheels and tires, listed below

+ much more that I can't think of off the top of my head

Lots of spares:

-Huge case full of gear sets/dog rings/+other bits (haven't gone through ratios but there are a lot)

-Set of mounted Goodyear 160 tires that are on the car

-Extra set of mounted Goodyear 160 slicks

-Spare battery

-Setup baselines

+ tons more stuff I can't think of right now

What still needs to be done:

-Rear Ld20's need to be rebuilt (have both new piston seals and new crossover seals)

-Firebottle needs to be re-installed and plumbed (firebottle is still good and I have new tubing to plumb it)

-Rear Upper A-arm bearings need to be swedged (I call Brad from primus to buy the tool but he was out of stock when I called). He also said I could just send them to him and he'd do it at a minimal cost.

-Engine needs a good heat cycle (just to warm everything up, go through the gears, and then check fluids for proper levels)

-Full throttle needs to be set on the pedal

-brake balance needs to be set when rear calipers are rebuilt

Formula Ford 1600 water pumps

I used to have better longevity with Ford rather than aftermarket water pumps. I think the original Ford pumps are no longer available. I am interested in your experiences and recommendations for and against specific brands of water pumps for the Kent 1600.

WTB 20 to 28' enclosed trailer

Will pay a reasonable price. Will consider an older trailer. Must be sound and ready to use with minor repairs. I'd love to find something for 2500 to 3000. I'm in Lafayette Indiana.

I'm going to pick up a race car in the Milwaukee area so buying a trailer up that way would work.

Pit Box For Sale

We are selling our pit box we used for F2000, World Challenge and Circuit Battles programs. It can carry more then all the equipment you need to bring to pit lane and back.

It can take tires and 2 nitrogen bottles on the bottom.

The top section has a compartment that is intended for radios with a bar to hang the headsets and then velcro to hold the radios and chargers. Velcro needs to be replaced but no big deal.

The other 3 compartments are for general storage, what ever it is you may want to carry. We have added a tool box to the unit that we used in one of those compartments. The toolbox can come in and out easily if you do not want it in there, literally just slides out.

The roof is diamond plate, usually we would put front quick lift jacks on it.

Price: $1,250 or best offer.

We are going to be in the Charlotte area March 10th-12th and testing at Carolina Motorsports Park March 13th-14th. We can bring the unit with us for you to pick it up. Or simply pick it up from us here in NY.

George Main RIP

I am very sad to report that I have been told that George passed yesterday, 2/26/15.

I first met George in 1988. Our mutual association with Bob Lobenberg brought George into the racing data acquisition world that year. George approached his work with a grit, tenacity, and curiosity that I found unequaled in my 30 years in this business. He was a professional associate and true friend who left this world far too soon, at age (I believe) 58.

George made a huge contribution to CDS and to the data acquisition world though his work and via this forum. He will be sorely missed. Godspeed my friend George.

Psssssssssst ..... want to by a racecar ?

"ATLANTA —

Travis Kvapil's NASCAR Sprint Cup car was stolen early Friday, forcing him to withdraw from a race this weekend near Atlanta.

A trailer with the red No. 44 car inside was hitched to a black 2004 Ford F-350 pickup truck parked outside a hotel in Morrow, Georgia, about 15 miles south of Atlanta, police said. Surveillance video shows the truck and trailer being driven out of the parking lot around 5:30 a.m., Morrow police Detective Sgt. Larry Oglesby said.

The trailer is plain white with no markings. The person who stole it likely didn't realize the racecar was inside, and may have thought it was lawn equipment or something else he could easily sell, Oglesby said.

"Hopefully they'll open this one up and say, 'Oh no, this isn't what we thought,' and will drop it off at the nearest vacant lot or apartment complex or somewhere," Oglesby said.

The 2015 Chevy NASCAR racecar inside the trailer is valued at $250,000, according to a police report. Also inside the trailer was a spare engine valued at $100,000 and racing equipment valued at $17,500.

A spokesman said the No. 44 team has withdrawn from this weekend's race at Atlanta Motor Speedway"

Weld Bungs

Gents;

If I were to have some weld bungs made of mild steel with 10-32 threads, what is the minimum wall thickness I should have? I need to have the smallest OD, but still retain the bung's structurally integrity.

For these still cold winter days

Van Diemen RF00 F1000 wide track

I will probably regret posting my car for sale but here is goes. The reason is after the Florida Majors I only need one Majors weekend to be qualified for the Runoffs in F1000. So my car is For Sale and available after NOLA March 7/8. My plan is to drive another car available to me for the Runoffs in F1000 and plan to qualify in P2 for the Runoffs as well.

For Sale: Van Diemen RF00 F1000

Just in time for the first F1000 Championship Series event at Road Atlanta March 20th weekend.

Just attended the Florida Nationals at Homestead and Sebring. Car set a new Homestead track record and Majors win on Saturday in race one and was second on Sunday. Qualified 2nd at Sebring with a 4th due to bad start caused by a P1 and 2nd in race two. I had not been in the car since March 2014. Car also holds track record at Palm Beach from 2013 Nationals. The car is the best it's ever been with new Taylor diff and fresh shock rebuild. It has taken me several years to assemble all the right pieces for this car.

Van Diemen RF00 F1000. The newest VD F1000 chassis conversion and probably the most developed Van Diemen in F1000. This style chassis is still dominant in F2000 and has many wins in F1000. This has the latest version Nova conversion chassis/HRP rear body and air box.

Full CDS data system with GPS.

Flat Shifter Expert with No lift shift/auto blip and paddle/bump downshift.

New OMP HANS belts installed 1/2015.

New Taylor differential newly manufactured and installed 1/2015 with all new sprockets and chain.

Wide track suspension with proper wide track steering rack.

Gundrilled axles.

Just rebuilt Penske 8670 3 way shocks from SRP installed 1/2015.

4 weekend old new Fast Forward Billet radial mount uprights with all new bearings/hubs/drive pins/suspension blocks all assembled by Fast Forward etc. mounted with new PFC Z55 Performance Friction radial mount Aluminum Calipers and new PFC rotors.

New master Cylinders (less than a year old) not rebuilt with spare master cylinders with rebuild kit.

3 weekend 08 Suzuki wet sump with latest version wet pan with forward pick up. This was out of a parted out bike with less than 2k miles when installed (not a wrecked bike)

Custom made oil and water coolers. Never any overheating issues.

Daytona air fuel sensor system that reports Air Fuel on CDS. GDRE flashed ECU.

New headers with Jet Hot coating 2013 and rear exhaust made in 2014 to eliminate need for muffler.

2 sets - Magnesium center Jongbloed wheels 7/8.5" rims with mounted low cycle slicks. I run 7 and 8" Slicks (sometimes 9" rears)

1 set - Magnesium center Jongbloed 6/8 with New Hoosier rain tires (We run smaller rain tires than slicks that fit 6/8 rims)

1 set unmounted hand grooved intermediate Hoosier R25's scrubbed as slicks then grooved with one rain cycle.

Full Carbon Fiber nose/attentuator with new never installed spare carbon fiber nose. This nose allows for a full plane wing.

Carbon fiber rear attentuator with new never installed spare rear carbon fiber attentuator.

With this nose and rear attentuator set up the car had the fastest trap speed of any F1000 at the 2013 Road America Runoffs.

Pennon front wing (full plane) with whizzy bits including dive planes, two sets of Pennon high DF and low DF winglets and Pennon vortex generating end plates.

Rear Pennon lower wing (longer than stick VD) with Pennon end plates.

Diffuser is made to maximize F1000 rules.

Roll hoop modified with through holes for lifting bar and welded in tow hook.

Van Diemen side head bolsters.

Two sizes front sway bars with in car push pull cable with Comprent indexed adjuster.

Two sizes rear sway bars.

Front and rear jacks.

Two chassis stands.

Custom lightweight ceramic insulated heat shield sandwiched with light weight aluminum.

Fuel cell reconditioned by Hartwig Aeronautics in 2013.

AMB hard wired transponder.

Dell dedicated Lap Top for CDS downloads with past information/CDS manual books.

Full set up info and info on all systems.

Alignment Bars

Will provide 2 new chains with new master links.

Multiple spring sets all you need.

Sprockets all you will need front and rear.

Composite light weight side plates to streamline rear chassis.

$39,000 as detailed above.

Spares available:

Complete set of wide track suspension

2nd 08 Suzuki motor 3 weekend old ready to go with latest version wet sump pan and all fittings. The only reason I changed motor is to benchmark performance of motor in the car. This was a donor motor with less than 2,000 miles.

3rd 08 Suzuki motor with valve issue (rebuild or future parts motor)

Spare throttle body and starter.

Spare lower Van Diemen wing element.

Spare upper rear Van Diemen two element assembly complete.

Spare rear wing end plates.

Spare front wing end plates.

As mentioned above spares include new carbon fiber nose and new carbon fiber rear attentuator/wing mount.

Some front wing spares of misc Pennon Whizzy bits including dive planes.

Miscellaneous spares/parts/tools such as suspension shims, tripod, tripod carrier, tripod boot, Chain tools, Power commander, spare heim joints, jam nuts and related suspension parts and more I cannot remember.

Spares listed above $5,000.

If you need a trailer I would consider selling my 2006 20’ x 8.5’ Enclosed trailer. Trailer is rivitless with full aluminum interior with Diamond plate floor, full aluminum/stainless workbench with mounted 5 drawer tool box under workbench, shore power, outlets, Florescent lights, loaded with pit pal stuff including two tire racks, nitrogen tank mounting brackets, and aluminum loading ramps for $5,500.

I will not sell the spare engines or trailer before the car sells.
