I've been vintage club racing for the last ten plus years and am used to paying $300-$350 for a weekend's worth of racing. I just joined SFR SCCA planning on doing some CF racing with them this season. I went to sign up for a couple races and the prices are $300-$400 for one day events and $450-$600 for two day events. Did the math and actual track time is almost identical. How does this compare to other regions? When I last raced SCCA ten years ago their fees were comparable to vintage events, things sure have changed...

Jongbloed Returns to US Formula 1000 Championship!
Jongbloed Racing Wheels has returned to continue their support of Formula 1000 for fourth straight year. For the 2014 season, they will be awarding a complete set of custom wheels in a random drawing to be held at the US Formula 1000 Championship season-finale race at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca this October.
Jongbloed Racing Wheels, fast becoming one of the most popular wheels in Formula 1000, manufactures a high quality wheel that reduces unsprung mass and holds up under the forces that Formula 1000 cars generate.
This prize will give one lucky competitor a chance to race on that Jongbloed quality. All drivers that have registered with the US Formula 1000 Championship when the season-finale commences on October 6th, 2014 will be entered in the drawing and one of them will go home with a new set of wheels worth at least $2,200!
About Jongbloed Racing Wheels:
For over 40 years, Jongbloed has been manufacturing lightweight, ultra high-performance aluminum and magnesium wheels specifically for racing, for both professionals and amateurs alike. Using cutting-edge tools, Jongbloed designs wheels to reduce rotating mass, allow better brake cooling, but still withstand the pounding that a race car endures, all of which translate to faster laps. Jongbloed uses only the highest quality forgings and machines the wheels using state-of-the-art 4-axis automated machines. http://ift.tt/1oczVah

2014 Formula Vee Challenge Cup Series
2014 F-VEE CHALLENGE CUP SERIES
Last years Autumn Challenge Cup Series is continuing for 2014 under a new moniker – the Formula Vee Challenge Cup Series. The title change is in relation to a shift in the series’ slant, as this years’ races will be spread out more evenly over the calendar in order to help even out the expense of competing.
Also, expanding from their financing of the series’ t-shirts last year, Rob DePalma’s Complemar and Associates has come on board as the overall series sponsor for 2014. Many kudos go out to Rob and his company for their support of the Challenge Cup, Formula Vee racing and the sport.
For 2014, in addition to last years “no stickers” tire clause, the Canadian F-1200 tire/wheel combination will also be welcomed. Those individuals choosing to run this set-up will be granted a 50% increase in points for any series race they use it. Besides this rule change the remainder of the series regulations will remain the same as 2013.
Once again we will be handing out free t-shirts, and car stickers to all Series competitors, plus we will be continuing our tradition of awarding high quality trophies. One improvement this year however, is that we will be presenting from 1st through 5th places, giving more competitors a chance to take home some hardware for their efforts.
Also, at most events there will be cookouts with free beer and pop included. These are planned for each Saturday after racing is completed for the day. All Vee drivers, crew and friends are welcome. Bring a lawn chair and some good racing stories for a fun afternoon/evening.
As of right now the Glen Region has generously granted us our own group for the Last Chance weekend’s races. Also, the Mosport F-1200 weekend’s races will also feature Vee’s running in our own group. We will be endeavoring to convince the three remaining organizers to give us our own group for their events, but we have to show up in significant numbers. Most organizers want 15-18 cars minimum to allow us to run alone.
In other news, this years awards ceremony will be held at the Seneca Lodge in Watkins Glen on Saturday evening of the Last Chance race weekend. For those of you who aren’t familiar with its history, the Lodge’s place in the birth of American road racing and its legendary victory celebrations over the years have long been a part of racing lore. You won’t want to miss this event at this historic venue – a fitting end to the season’s racing.

Please review the schedule, make plans now to compete and join in helping to promote Formula Vee racing.

New Mylaps X2 Transponder
Anyone else get the survey from MyLaps on the new X2 transponder? It's going to be subscription based whatever that means. Not sure what that is but it sounds like it's going to cost me more money. New transponder will probably be as good as their new website was.
FS: Panasport wheel halves
I have two pairs of Panasport wheel halves, both sets are inners, in 13 in. dia. Pair one is 6 1/4 in wide, the second set is 5 3/4 in. width. These are standard 3-piece Panasport parts, 16 bolt holes, on a roughly 10 5/16 in. bolt circle. (sure it's in mm, but this is close). $50. per pair, plus shipping, or $85. for all four. Yes, the blue light is flashing! The halves are all true, in decent usable shape, and priced accordingly. One of the 5 3/4,s has a small ding on edge, as seen in last photo, but did not cause any problems in use.Tom at: tomandgretch@charter.net
New to the FE group!
Hi all - been lurking around here for a few months trying to figure out which formula car/class would be best suited for me. Finally settled on FE and couldn't be happier - and I haven't even driven the car yet!! (Thanks a lot, mother nature). Dad and I picked up Chassis 29 from One Formula Racing last weekend (Steve was great to work with) and have been drooling ever since. I figured FE was the perfect class for a guy that grew up racing shifter karts, did some time in SM, SRF and PCA and cant spend all of my time or dollars racing FB or FA. The camaraderie of this group seems great and Im excited to learn more about the car and class. Cheers to you all for all the help and guidance I have already gained from this site....see you on the track soon - will be primarily racing CenDiv and MiDiv.
Next step: finish the bead seat to see if I can get my 6'3" 200 lbs comfortable and below the air box.

LOVE the Formula E Pic!
Thanks for putting the FrmE big at the top of the page. For some reason, I am really excited for this series. I like the front wings (I was a big fan of Swift's next-gen IndyCar proposal) and I really like the treaded low-profile tires. Finally tires that are relevant to the manufacturers. I thought Pirelli was suppose to introduce lower-profile tires in F1, but I guess the teams fought back hard enough. Real teams and real drivers too.
I only wish they weren't going to switch cars at the pitstops. I think these teams should be at the forefront of hot-swappable battery technology. That's what everybody wants out of electric cars anyway. This could be used to show how racing can still contribute to road car development.

Radiator Size - expert opinion needed
Are side mounted, side air feed rads less efficient than front mounted front facing rads?
Current car has front mounted rad about 140 sq.in. area with air fed through much smaller forward facing opening (about 50 sq.in.) Car is overcooled most of the time.
Will be using same engine in sport racer renovation with side mounted rad with air fed by side inlets and exhausting 'out the back' of the car.
Need free advise, aka expert opinion - would you be considering a larger rad - maybe 180-200 sq.in. in anticipation of less than ideal air flow? I can always blank off some.
I know it's like asking how long is a piece if string - but just give me your thoughts. Maybe I'll be OK with same size rad.
Engine is a vintage 2L BDG - about 270 bhp. Car is 1983 2L center seat CanAm
